SUMMARY:2021 UN & Australia Sustainable Partnerships Forum

Mohammed in conversation with future Australian leader Lucy Stronach.\nDeputy Secretary-General Mohammed led the process that resulted in global agreement around creation of the SDGs. Throughout her career\, DSG Mohammed has also been known for her strong support of women and young people being included in decision-making and leadership. \nLucy\, a West Australian university student\, is the 2021 Australian Youth Representative to the UN. Lucy is currently conducting the largest ever face to face consultation with young Australians about what they are most concerned about and the solutions they want to be implemented. Lucy will then deliver this information to MPs\, NGOs and other key stakeholders before addressing the UN General Assembly later in the year. \nWe think this conversation will be a fabulous way to kick off the Forum. \nAn evening with Gillian Triggs\n\nWe will conclude Day 1 with this special session from Geneva during which Gillian Triggs\, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant High Commissioner for Protection\, UNHCR\, will discuss the world’s need for a new social contract in the aftermath of the global pandemic. \n“The pandemic has taught us that with political will\, we can find a way to respond to future emergencies\, and there will be of course future emergencies\, especially the impact of climate change. We can do this in creative and collaborative ways\,” she said. \nMs Triggs was appointed to her role in the world’s leading refugee agency by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres after a long history of service to human rights and the refugee cause globally. Formerly\, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission\, Ms Triggs now oversees UNHCR’s protection work for millions of refugees\, internally displaced and stateless people. \nMs Triggs will be joined in conversation by Bianca Hall\, Senior Journalist\, The Age.
